Are you a gongoozler?

One of my best friends accused me...

This is a page from a lovely book (Ounce Dice Trice, by Alastair Read, with illustrations by Ben Shan) discarded at the Elting Memorial Library in New Paltz, New York. If you are ever there, they have a lot of very old books - including many original Edgar Rice Burroughs novels- available to take out. Sometimes new and improved isn't.

By the definition below the sketch, I did use to be a gongoozler, but now, much of my exploring and wandering is done on the web, so I guess I am more of a "gongoogler". Some would call it serendipity I imagine...

I am a Serious Gongoozler. What of it, I say, I say? Suddenly, I've become Foghorn Leghorn, as well. Cheers. I needed the laugh.

What is this life if full of care
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the sows
And stare at ugly sheep, or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels fondle their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
The farmers wife, taking a shite.

No time to turn at Beauty's butt,
And watch her strip, the dirty slut.

No time to wait till her big arse can
Enrich your smile, you dirty old man.

A poor life this, if full of care,
We stay trapped inside our underwear.

Ben Shahn! I recognized his mark immediately. Seeing his work makes my heart leap. How I wish we could open a magazine and regularly see work like that again! People like him and you, Artspark, are so rare--Ink, an extension of the heart and soul.

Oh yes, I would indeed fit into this category. Sounds like a Doctor Seuss term almost! As for the book, how on Earth could someone have discarded this?! Love this illo!

it´s a great page, so must be the book, I´ll look for Ben Shan ´cause I like a lot that kind of linear illustrations. And I´m a gongoozler, definitely!

Thanks for adding a new word in my vocabulary. I'd say that I hope to be a gongoozler, but ever so often I loose the presence due to the city rush.
I will search for the book. Lovely sketch.

Karin- Ah, it is a book that was published in 1958, that's why it got discard. The illustrations are very lovely.
