Puzzler

This contemplative bird was photographed by Eduardo, husband of commenter Cláudia. While she and I caught up on the steps of the Victoria fountain in front of Buckingham Palace, Eduardo and their daughter Isabella were having a wander around St. James' Park. We are wondering what it is - it looks like a cross between a dodo and a pelican.

I liked the bird a lot, so I have memorialized it in this t-shirt on redbubble.

"what a very strange bird is the pelican,
its beak can hold more than its belly can"

(from lines that stick in my head)

A pelican nerd.

A pelican nerd? Charles, you couldn't be more close! I guess Susan drew a mixture of the bird and the photographer!

Victorian Fountain? I had no idea, Susan. We seated on its steps so unceremoniously!

Oh, now I saw another bird in your drawing - its head is the eye and the wings are "hidden" in its beak.

It was a literal puzzler after all!

C- Oh, I didn't see that till you pointed it out!

peli-dodo seems too obvious. but it does have a nice ring to it. say it out loud.

@poet in res: I say that every single time I see a pelican. my family is so dreadfully tired of me saying it. and yet I always do.

Was it good? I'd like to see a good film.

It was good. As many lines were whispered and as I'm not Irish, I sometimes had difficulty understanding what was being said. In a whole other vein "Get him to the Greek" was quite good, would be a good companion film to "Spinal Tap", and that's high praise.

Dolican, obviously. If no one has suggested that yet. As a pelican nerd myself, did you know it used to be believed they fed their young with their own blood?

The fez is fantastic. Heavily featured in the last episode of current series of Dr Who. I quote, "Fez's are cool". Amy then snatched said fez off the Doctor's head, threw it in the air, and River Song blasted it to bits.
Oops. Bit Dr Who Nerd too.
