The poem mentioned in Thursday's post, The Idea of Order at Key West, is one of Stevens' poems about poetry, or creativity. This poem describes a woman singing on the seashore, and in the stanza following the one quoted below are the lines:
She measured to the hour its solitude.
She was the single artificer of the world
In which she sang. And when she sang, the sea,
Whatever self it had, became the self
That was her song, for she was the maker...
