Edit: A couple of people had asked about the dog, which was a found, not a lost dog. Just checked with the shelter and apparently once it's in there a number of rules have to be followed for people to get the dog back, which the dog's owners are in the process of doing. I am glad that I now know there are two neighbors who could watch a dog for a day or so while we looked for owners, because once it's in the shelter the whole ownership thing comes into play. It's a huge difference, being responsible for an animal (how it feels for the individual) and owning it (How the powers that be slot things into boxes).
