Lamplighter

I was having a discussion with an old friend about what motivates artists/creative types. The truth is, with all the not wanting to show up at the office, engage in normal small talk, and be a grownup in various ways, one still wants to be of use to others. One wants to contribute to society at the same time one is stubbornly refusing to participate, or alternatively being subversive. Yup I'm saying "one" instead of "I" in a rather ineffectual attempt to be discreet.

Concerning light, this is a very lovely post on Titus the Dog on related themes.

And a wonderful post on artistic community on Spirit Cloth

Wayfarers All

In recent correspondence from another blogger, she referred to her blog as "a refuge, even for me". As I sit in my somewhat shambolic apartment, with its heaps and collections of china and seashells and little toys plucked out of cardboard boxes on the street (an environment which reflects my craziness, longing, confusion, impatience), I am attempting to be the wise and humorous person I present myself as here, for instance in the photo you see at right. Sometimes the goal is reached, it's a form of observance for a non-religious person. Sometimes I fall back into old habits, sometimes I am forced to realize my own limitations. But certainly having this place of sorts, this virtual bower or museum of oddities with its opportunities for dialogue with other extraordinary and flawed wanderers on the web, is helpful in working toward being that person.

The Light Between

Crepuscular, lucent, inchoate, liminal, immanent, coruscating, nacreous, incandescent, penumbral.

(Okay, two of those aren't to do with light, I just like them).

Is the uncertainty principle the equivalent of negative capability in poetry?

For my sister Aleph.
