I was having a discussion with an old friend about what motivates artists/creative types. The truth is, with all the not wanting to show up at the office, engage in normal small talk, and be a grownup in various ways, one still wants to be of use to others. One wants to contribute to society at the same time one is stubbornly refusing to participate, or alternatively being subversive. Yup I'm saying "one" instead of "I" in a rather ineffectual attempt to be discreet.Concerning light, this is a very lovely post on Titus the Dog on related themes.
And a wonderful post on artistic community on Spirit Cloth
Let your little light shine -

one is not wanting to grow up, one is afraid being boring normal....(is this discreet enough?)

...what a beautiful image and a thoughtful commentary about the plight of the creative non-conformists of the world! I think "one" is hoping to transform and enrich a conformity-crazed society in a small way..."one" thinks it's a very grown-up way to contribute!
here is the wavesound with mysterywhispers about neverending love back for you!
Yvette- Yes, I got your first comment just as soon as I had commented on yours. Sometimes all this effort simply doesn't seem necessary, and there is a temporary still place in the tides.
There I go, off on the back of a metaphor -
Susan - Thanks, it's good to be in community .
one needs to be both teacher and student.
Jude- keeping the dialogue between the two going can be challenging for some of us.
As in, "Wheeee! School's out."
Or not.

C - I know you can't help it.............................The way I can't with ellipses...........................
Beautiful works!!!
The trick is knowing when one shouldn't conform and one is simply refusing to conform for the sake of it. Not conforming for well balanced principles is key :)
I like your light!
One agrees entirely. Thanks for the great links too.
I loves this picture Sparkey!
oh thisone is funny and a little bit macabre. Kathrin
I think 'one' has it the nail on its head!
Glow little glow worm, glow!
What a wonderful image! Lamplighter is an important job...
a wonderful portrayal - so well captured and the interplay of light and shadow really draws out the reflection
. . . and you very much do that!
(very warm glow from this one)
Amazing amazing amazing amazing
Dancing to the tunes of one's own drummer, the search for finding one's bliss and refusing to pretend to be a grown up.
Comrade in ellipsis feve...hurrah! Since I started blogging they have taken me over completely.
As for the being useful...just the thought of that knot to self is a tiny torture.

"One wants to contribute to society at the same time one is stubbornly refusing to participate, or alternatively being subversive."
I totally understand, but I also think that the act of refusing to participate is in itself a kind of participation- in changing society.
What a wonderful place Spirit cloth is!
