Rainy Day Toads

An Illustration from a couple of years ago for an article in a Florida magazine about the amphibious fondness for rain.

Edit: Suggestible folks are advised not to read the comments....

Great picture. I think I must be whatever the opposite of amphibious is because I hate rain more than I hate Liverpool FC and that's a lot.

whenever it rains heavily, the toads come out of the woods into the roads. they are trying to keep from drowning. unfortunately, they are so small, they end up hit by cars. they are the cutest things. we usually have one or two living in our wood pile by the living room door.

Your title made me shutter-- I used to live in Florida and one time I was walking down a cobblestone street in Gulfport in my bare feet from the beach. A very sudden rainstorm occurred and (I am not making this up) it started raining frogs!! Seriously, I got pelted by them and I stepped (and slipped) on some! There were suddenly zillions of frogs in the rain and it was like a horror movie!! (I learned later they were apparently coming out of the trees--but OMG).
Your illustration Happy! Sorry I felt compelled to share the nightmare of walking in raining frogs. lol.

Lovely picture, but have been traumatised by Celeste's description of her experience.

when I was little there was this book about frogs, toads rather, that just appeared and nobody could figure out where they came from. then the next day the toads were gone.
yet, the last page, I remember, showed a shadow of a pig with wings....

it was one of my favourites.

When God created the frogs, He said:
"You are going to be ugly and repulsive in real life, but, as a compensation, I will give you some characteristics that will make you one of the cutest creatures among the world of drawings, paintings and art!"
And we simply love toads - as long as we don't bump into a real one, whether it's raining or not.

Nice picture, the edit was sort of like telling someone not to look down. I just had to read the comments. Uh oh for tonight!

Plagues of frogs and toads are supposed to be quite common. I can't say I'd really like it to happen to me but my nightmare is being hit by something thrown out of a plane at 30,000 feet! squishy little frogs and toads don't bother me so much....
