For comics fans, Malachi Wardis offering his services at bargain rates for the next couple of weeks- think of the possibilities, you could be your own superhero!
I don't know any chanties except the blow the man down one..pretty typical..but your illustration is very un-typical! Everything about it implies motion. I bet he loves being put to sea after so many years of being a simple portrait.
"What do you do with a drunken sailor, what do you do with a drunken sailor, what do you do with a drunken sailor, earl-aye [sic] in the morning?"
I remember this from summer camp sing-alongs. Each verse suggests a different punishment. The only one I can remember is "shave his beard with a rusty razor." Or maybe it was "shave his head?" It was a wonderfully gritty little song, and reminds me so much of being a kid in the 80s, when kids were allowed to be exposed to all manner of fantastically gritty, creepy, "inappropriate" and slightly dangerous things.
Thank you Susan! I know what you mean. I only know What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor-I do quite like it! A couple of years ago we had a pirate day at work, and I kept up my pirate persona all morning-quite exhausting! We looked up sea shanties on the internet and there are plenty of good ones-but none that stuck with me!

I was my own superhero last night!
I don't know if it counts but I've just put Andrew Marvell's lovely old poem 'Bermudas' on my blog.
PR-
I love that poem.
I wonder how sea-worthy he is. If that boat ever got going properly he would surely drown. Or maybe he can just carry it above the waves.
As always I'm taking the inappropriate literal approach. He's a fancy man, and is probably going somewhere excellent.
it s great, I like you art, have a nice new week !!! big hugh Kathrin
Ooh, Blow the Man Down for me!
Interesting version here with some great Treasure Island at the end:
