Hatch

Three conspirators hatch a plot (the illustration friday prompt is hatch). Any thoughts on what they're planning?

I'm currently feeling fascinated by the way crosshatching looks furry and lines of ink can wrap like light.

Heating things up in the frozen North. Watch for dancers' improv in the middle!

I don't know what they're planning , but it sure aint pretty.
Clearly they are circus people, monkey boy (Charlie), Trapeeze girl(Lola) and Ring Leader (Franky Knuckles) in the middle. I think it's probably a bank heist, they plan one for each town the circus rolls into. The Ring Leader , Frank, is the ring leader and getaway driver, Trapeeze girl, Lola, is an acrobatic diversion and Monkey Boy climbs in to the loot when everyone is distracted.
It's just a guess.Great drawing Sparko.

That's a beautiful explanation, TFE.

Such great use of the meanings of the word "hatch": the drawing technique; the dark and hidden place (by the presence of a candle); the elaboration of a plan (by the whole atmosphere); and even the egg (by the round form that circle the three of them).

And surely something has hatched out from Lola's hair. The trapeze girl looks very self-conscious about her wonderful hairdo and the effect it causes in other people.

Now I have to check the meaning of the word furry (me and my poor English...)

probably wondering what to get you for Christmas. The crosshatched background is really cool...and i'll bet it took awhile to finish.

Cláudia - as to your command of English, the question you asked me the other day grew out of my poor syntax. I hadn't seen the egg-shape.

Tom - crosshatching is a great obsessive counter-phobic activity.

mmm... that's a conspiracy of silence. Just planning the right moment to reveal all the dark secrets they know...
cool drawing!

Ha! Great minds think alike! Before I checked this out, I also found myself working with the idea of "crosshatch" for Illustration Friday.

I hope their hatching a plan for the next Artspark challenge. ;-)

They're up to no good at all! It reminds me of some of the adult characters in Sid Fleishman's kids' novels.

I LOVE cross-hatching--how even when it's very dark, there's light in it.

You know, I didn't even think of "hatching" as a technique with this prompt, despite the fact that it's one of the chief joys of my visual life.

The song Tweeter and the Monkey Man
came to my mind when I read your post. Cool.
Thanks for that!

she is going to double cross the others... you just know it.

fabulous drawing. I can honestly hear the sinister inner laughs, especially from the left monkey guy.
I think she's using her hairdo as a distraction though. She's most likely the master-mind behind whatever will be taking place!

I remember when I couldn't do a single drawing without cross-hatching. I adore it and always will. It's in my genes.

they're plotting to overthrow crosshatching... but it's too late.

Victorian Villains! Obviously an assault on the Bank Of England. Send for Holmes!

That is the most incredible drawing.

It's a bit late in the year but it looks like gunpowder, treason and plot to me (not that it's ever too late for gunpowder, treason and plot)!

I think they're planning some naughty and mischievous but amusing prank. But reading through the comments here I think you've come up with the illustrative equivalent of a Rorschasch test!

I used to do a lot of this on etch-board ( the cross-hatching ). As for what this trio is plotting, I'd hatch a guess as to nothing redeeming or charitable, wot?

a threesome?

Three shifty looking types. Especially the one in the middle. I don't trust him at all. Not at all.

Jenny - Shhh, don't tell.

It looks a conspiracy against the girl or they trying to trick her.

little did they know that the candle had them and in a moment all would be ash...

looks to me like they're trying to convince the young lady to do something... best not ask what?

Very nice work (and great blog)

these are wonderful shady characters. they remind me of those found in a tom waits spoken word. great illustration!

Alex - It's so interesting the way some see the female as the one being taken advantage of, and some see her as the master manipulator.

Donny - TW is never far away.

I do like the light in this... and the hair. I think she's the mastermind, but how could she not be, with that hair?
