Lettuce at Lettuce Eating sent me the book Mythago Wood, in which people living near a mysterious wood manifest creatures from the unconscious, these creatures first becoming visible out of the corners of their eyes - they vanish when looked at directly (a little of Sheridan Le Fanu's Green Tea?). I note that as I linked I discovered that L. has Alice up in her post today. I am expecting more Alices on Sunday.
By the way, if anyone can think of an appropriately mythic name for this creature, let me know. Also, any mythic creatures of your own you'd like to see in these pages – more will be appearing here.

It seems to be a bagel(?)-loving Höllenhund... - more four-footers, please...!
That gave me a laugh! I love it!
I don't know what it is but I don't trust it.
an inspired mythical creature indeed! Does it have any magical tendencies?
It's a grand little yoke! Is it a Liog? Or as suggested byb the word verification, a 'Crifyin' ?
Brilliant. Sounds like a fab & interesting book.
I reckon its a cinnamon bun. Mmmmm
Yay, my library has a copy of that book! Going to pick it up on the way home today.
Somewhere early on in The Name of the Rose there's a list of all kinds of mythical creatures (I think the monk is looking at a painting behind the altar?) and I remember being shocked at how many I had NEVER heard of before.
Looks conspicuously like a Lesser Maunzen to me, but then again you never can be sure with them. If it makes lots of whiney, irritating noises that would indicate that it is just that.
Son
What a lovely thing, obviously the Weeleobeg.
Now I really have to get a copy of Mythago Wood. I ave wanted to read it since you first mentioned it to me.
Love the second picture especially. I wonder how your mythical creature smelled to the real canine?
I HOPE my Alice will be up on Sunday; if Blogger doesn't let me down. I'm going to be in Norfolk, though.
looks like a fred to me.
A Deerlion?
I'd like to see something with wings. Actually, wouldn't it be great if you could combine a mythical creature and a paper aeroplane and get it to fly!
It's a ryhopethesaurus - I see they tend to shrink away from Ryhope Wood. That, or it's been genetically modified to resemble a chihuahua.
The second pictures is so cute!
I like him. I reckon he would gracefully accept your company, if offered pastries in a brown papaer bag!
Oh, so true... never never eat the contents of an unattended brown paper bag no matter how good it smells! Caution Mythagos!
