Sheridan LeFanu's story "Green Tea" describes a man who becomes a little too amped up on the titular infusion and begins to see a hideous ape out of the corner of his eye. Many of my own ideas seem to have their source in a strong cup of the leafy brew. "Green Tea" was published thirteen years after "Origin of the Species".
The reference (which has been removed) to another artist's work was intended merely to show influence, this was not intended to be a satirical take on that artist's work, which this artist continues to admire.

ooooooo-o-ohh lots I've missed. Nice Alices and Calibans and this one's perfect.
I love the way you've drawn this one, Susan. I also really like the interpretation!
That´s how I look (without the crown, of course) after too much (black...) leafy brew - and that´s how I look when craving for it, too...
In a google search for Monkey King Jasmine, your post appears in 8th spot at the moment. A great tea. Love the illustration also with the contrast between the delicacy of the cup and emblem and the Le Fanu inspired being (are we sure the man was drinking tea-tea when he wrote it?)

Kinda strange but I swear this is what I look like ere I've had my cuppa(s)...now I'm off to find a copy of "Green Tea"...I am intrigued...and like the art( both of you, thanks )...
ugh; that truly is a hideous monkey! It can't be easy to draw something so sinister.
A sorta frightening little monkey. Thanks for the links. I like the frankfurter charmer at Niki's blog.
Love it. And I lvoe Monkey King Jasmine tea, too.
Such a great drawing! I must read this book now - looks like it turned out to be a wonderful source of inspiration.
Great drawing! Love to see such things from this talented person you.
Seems realy a quasimodic monkey...
what an amazing scary little fellow, I love how he is holding the tea cup so delicately
wow! that handheld tea cup....i'm love being lost in the details...
Royal! Great pic, like the golden crown,is that jasmine on the cup? As for a cup of green , i prefer a pint of black. :)
Hey, nice illustration... I've not heard of "Green Tea" before, it sounds interesting :)
he seems friendly despite his raggedy appearance.
i'd invite him to a tea patry.
delightful piece

it's me in the morning!
makes me think of the angry monkey in Family Guy, but scarier

Wow! Green Tea can do that?
I just bought a new Expresso Machine.Lord knows what that will do to me!
This one especially caught my eye! Love the different execution directions of the three elements! -Jyane
Great picture.
I love the crown on top of the tea cup. That's how I feel about my tea. Great blog, Susan. I'm impressed!
That was one strong cup of tea! I like that you've drawn a "hideous ape" holding such a dainty teacup. I like your use of white space, too.
